Our History

Registration and Legal Status

The Malaysian Boules Sports Federation (MBSF) was initially registered with the Registrar of Society (ROS), marking the beginning of its formal establishment. Subsequently, the federation was registered with the Sports Commissioner’s Office (SCO) under the Akta Pembangunan Sukan 1997 (Akta 576). This registration, under the number KSGR-10377, was completed on September 25, 2020, further solidifying the federation’s official status within Malaysia.

Historical Milestone

The Malaysian Boules Sports Federation (MBSF) has established its authority in the sport of Petanque through recognition by key governing organizations at both the international and regional levels. On Friday, May 17, 2019, the Federation de Petanque et Jue Provencal (FIPJP), which serves as the International Federation (IF) for Petanque, officially acknowledged the MBSF as the governing body for Petanque in Malaysia.

In addition to its international recognition, MBSF also received endorsement from the Asian Boules Sports Confederation (ABSC), the Asian Federation (AF), on Wednesday, May 15, 2019. This regional acknowledgment further strengthened MBSF’s standing as the primary authority for Boules Sports in Malaysia, supporting its efforts to promote and advance the sport both nationally and across Asia.

A significant moment in the history of the MBSF occurred on Saturday, February 27, 2021. On this date, the federation became one of the founding members of the newly established World Petanque Bowls Federation (WPBF). The WPBF was created to succeed the Confederation Mondiale des Sports de Boules (CMSB), and it is recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) as the new international federation responsible for governing all Boules Sports worldwide. MBSF’s role as a founding member highlighted its commitment to the global development of boules sports.

Role as National Governing Body

Through its affiliation with the WPBF, the MBSF was granted the status of the governing body for all three main disciplines of Boules Sports in Malaysia. These disciplines are “Boule Lyonnaise,” “Petanque,” and “Raffa Volo.” As the national authority, the MBSF is responsible for the promotion, development, and regulation of these sports throughout the country.

Recognition by Key Organizations

The Malaysian Boules Sports Federation’s status and credibility were further affirmed when the Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) accepted the MBSF as an Associate Member during its 204th Executive Council Meeting, held on Friday, February 17, 2023. As the official national governing body for boules sports in Malaysia, the MBSF is recognized by the following organizations:

  • World Petanque Bowls Federation (WPBF)
  • Federation de Petanque et Jue Provencal (FIPJP)
  • Asian Boules Sport Confederation (ABSC)
  • Olympic Council of Malaysia
  • Ministry of Youth and Sports
  • National Sports Council

This strategic positioning enables MBSF to drive comprehensive development of boules sports nationwide while maintaining Malaysia's active participation in the global boules community.
