PETEM 1, Cheetah juarai petanque KBS Masters Games

A total of 108 pairs took part in the competition, which ran from Sept 11-13, with 66 teams contesting the men’s doubles and another 42 in the women’s doubles.

In the men’s final, PETEM 1’s Ahmad Kamal Zakaria and Md Shaiful Azman Daud defeated Dragon 1 pair Wan Daud Wan Ismail and Ahmad Faiezal Ramli 10-5 to claim the title.

Dzulfikar Yusof and Mohd Zainuri Abdullah of PKC finished third after beating KSPW4’s Hamzah Samad and Amin Hussin Abd Rahman 13-9 in the playoff.

The women’s doubles produced a much tighter title decider, with Cheetah’s Norrita Fadilla Salehudin and Rokiah Ismail edging Putrajaya 2’s Maslina Mohd Ludin and Zaiton Saad 7-6.

PV7 A pair Norshafiza Saidin and Tuan Nurazita Tuan Mahmood secured third place following a 12-2 victory over Norliza Hamzah and Non Tasbihaton Marhaban of Liza.

First introduced by the Ministry of Youth and Sports in 2024, the KBS Masters Games provides a competitive sporting platform for those aged 40 and above while encouraging adults and veterans to remain active in sport. Pétanque has been part of the programme since its inaugural edition.

The Games have since grown as part of KBS’ wider push for greater inclusivity in sport and opportunities for Malaysians to continue participating recreationally and competitively beyond their younger years. Malaysia Boules Sports Federation (MBSF) president Cheah Ban Cheng said the response to this year’s pétanque competition was particularly encouraging.

“To have 216 players competing in just two events is a very positive response. It shows that there is still a strong desire among our Masters players to compete and remain actively involved in the sport,” said Cheah.

“Pétanque is a sport that can be enjoyed competitively across different stages of life, and the KBS Masters Games provides an important platform for these players to continue testing themselves while enjoying the camaraderie of competition.”
