MBSF Launches Official Website to Strengthen Governance and Grow Boules Sports Nationwide

Mr BC Cheah, Acting President of MBSF delivers his welcoming speech.

KUALA LUMPUR, 1 Dec:

The Malaysian Boules Sport Federation (MBSF) today launched its official website, marking a major step towards modernising the governance, visibility and development of Boules sports in the country.

The platform serves as a centralised hub for national team information, athlete profiles, events and results, umpire certification pathways, affiliate listings and community updates — strengthening MBSF’s role as the national governing body for all Boules disciplines in Malaysia, including Bocce, Lyonnaise and Pétanque.

Acting President Cheah Ban Cheng said the launch reflects the federation’s commitment to transparency, strengthened communication and long-term development.

“Boules has grown steadily in Malaysia, and this platform allows us to better showcase our athletes, share verified information, and support the next generation of players and officials,” he said.

“It represents our commitment to professionalism, accessibility and raising the overall standard of the sport.”

The event was officiated by Guest of Honour, Datuk Mohd Nasir Ali, Secretary General of the Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM), together with Tan Sri Mohamad Noor Abdul Rahim, Chairman of MBSF and President of the Asian Boules Sport Confederation.

The launch was held in conjunction with the flag-handover ceremony for the national petanque squad heading to the 33rd SEA Games in Thailand next month.

Malaysia will be represented by a 24-strong contingent — 12 men and 12 women — making it one of the largest squads the federation has assembled for the Games. It is a seasoned lineup, with 13 athletes having already won at least one medal at the Games. The men’s team includes three of Malaysia’s most decorated petanque players — Saiful Bahri Musmin, Muhamad Hafizuddin Mat Daud and Syed Akmal Fikri Syed Ali — the trio responsible for all five of Malaysia’s SEA Games gold medals to date. Cheah said the squad carries strong momentum into Thailand.

“This is a proven and balanced team with a solid mix of experience and emerging talent. We are confident they will rise to the occasion,” he said.

Malaysia will aim to extend its gold-medal streak, having secured at least one gold in four of the last five SEA Games editions. Beyond competition, Cheah emphasised that the website also supports MBSF’s long-term agenda — including athlete development pathways, umpire education, affiliate support and increased community participation. “Accessibility to information is crucial for the sport to grow. This website is part of our long-term strategy to build a stronger Boules ecosystem nationwide,” he said.

The new MBSF website will serve as the federation’s main digital platform for updates, announcements, results, education resources and grassroots engagement.
